Does anyone actually see performance gains from installing the newest Nvidia drivers? I can't get over 60 fps on CS, granted I don't have the greatest card, a GeForce2 MX200. But I've never seen any improvements from installing the newest drivers, I've had 60 fps when I got the card and numerous updates later it's still 60 fps. So I was curious if better cards actually get something from the new drivers.

Drivers don't always offer performance increases. Sometimes its just a bunch of fixes/patches rolled up. I'm running an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB card and I get about 70ish FPS in CS with the latest Catalyst drivers.

I do remember one Nvidia driver that supposedly offered an 20-40% increase for some apps from the previous one.

My two main boxes are an XP 2500+ with the Radeon card and an XP 1700+ with a Geforce3 ti200 64MB and I don't notice much speed difference between the two in CS, but there is a bit of quality difference.

Exiles.. go to Control Panel >> Display >> Settings >> Advanced >> Click on the GeForce Tab >> Go to the Open GL settings and set Vertical Sync to Always OFF and OK out of everything.

Once you are in the game, drop console and type fps_max 101 and then see what fps you get.

Question about FPS in counterstrike. Shouldn't you set your max FPS to your average so that you don't have any fluctuation? Wouldn't that smooth out the game a little (better accuracy due to smoother movement)?

i dont think so cajuntech, i mean, i want as much fps as i can get always, fluctuaion in "frames a second" wont really be noticed by human eye unless its drastic anways, and / or your used to 100 and it drops to 60.. or so. See what im saying?
Somthin to remember is, if you only got 60hz lcd, cant you only get 60 fps? Correct me toby if im wrong

P.S. toby helped me with my fps a while ago, he good at that :)

If you have your monitor set to 60hertz refresh rate then you will go blind. Thats like staring into a florecent bulb.. lol.. But yes and no.. You are limited by your refresh rate that your monitor/OS is locked to but you will see a difference in game play if you increase your ingame fps (ie. smoother movements)

I'll definately try increasing mine tonight then. I think with the Radeon 9600 I should be able to get more than the 70 I'm maxing at now.

i wouldn't do that.. cause it kills your quality.. you can get a program called rivatuner if you run your cs at 800*600 and it overides your 60hz refresh rate that that res to 100hz which most monitors can handle... then you get 100fps and have a good picture..

Since my video card isn't too great and my monitor is on about the same level, I'll take what I can get. I haven't noticed any differences in appearance, I run 1024x768 OpenGL.
