Eternal Darkness was sweet. If you like RE, I think you will like Eternal Darkness. It takes the zombie killin' fun of RE but adds FAR superior play control (real 3D with a targeting system instead of the clunky RE set-up), a sweet magic system, and best of all an insanity system.

Basically, in addition to your health meter, you had a sanity meter. The more creatures you encountered, the more sanity you lost, especially if you ran away instead of standing and fighting. As you begin to lose touch with reality, strange things start happening. The game really starts to mess with your mind. I don't want to give away the sanity effects - trust me you will routinely find yourself saying "WTF???"

The story takes place over the course of 2000 years through about 10 different playable characters, each with history-specific weapons.

i like to take my time with games like that to get everything out of them so playing it nonstop for 1 day is no fun for me... so i rent and if i want to buy it i buy it from da used game store for 15 dollars =D
