For those of you interested in playing Battle Field 1942 with us, we have opened up the Demo server to the general public.

The IP address for this server is 65.198.174.92

The multiplayer Demo can be downloaded from this site.

You must have DirectX 8.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/directx) to play this game.

Here are some things that we have found out about the game:

Dont have windows open during game play, if you must run ICQ, AIM, etc etc minimize them.

After the game resets after 10 rounds on some machines it will minimize the game, dont worry its still running take a 20 - 30 second break then maximize the game back and it'll load up just fine.

One word of advice to all noobs:

READ AND COPY DOWN TO PAPER THE KEY MAPS This game utilizes many keys and you will need to familiarize your self with them. You'll see the full list of them under the options screen.

These are known to have issues:

Hercules Prophet FDX 8500 LE AGP 64MB ATI Radeon 8500

Nvidia GeForce2 Integrated GPU AGP 32MB Nvidia nForce
(nForce)

ATI Radeons
- Some cards in the Radeon family may have graphical issues such
as texture flicker and some drop-out. By the time you read this
the latest drivers form ATI should be available to address these
issues.

SETTING 16-bit
- Setting the color depth to 16 bits will give you more flickering
(z-buffer errors).

- When playing the game with 16-bit you might experience
flickering on the buildings if LIGHTMAPS under video options
is turned on.

- VIDEO SETTINGS
Read the section Improving Gameplay Performance below to help
minimize some of the above video card issues.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Cards that are not HW-T&L compatible will not be supported!

Known soundcard issues:
------------------------------------------------------------------
AOpen AW320 PCI Audio PCI Windows 2000
All sounds (vehicle, gun, etc.) cut in and out while in a game.
The computer will also randomly briefly flash a blue screen error
message right before the computer re-boots while in a game.

Aureal Vortex PCI Windows XP
Aureal Vortex 2 PCI Windows XP
Aztech A3D PCI Windows XP
Diamond Monster Sound II MX300 PCI Windows XP
Turtle Beach Montego A3D Xstream PCI Windows XP
Turtle Beach Montego II PCI Windows XP
Turtle Beach Montego II Quadzilla PCI Windows XP

The seven cards above all experience the following:
Vehicle sounds are distorted. This includes tanks, jeeps, AA-
guns, etc. Voices play too fast.

Yamaha Xwave-192 PCI
Sounds cut in and out intermittently during gameplay. Engines will
go quiet off and on.

Avance AC97 PCI
Voices and soundfx will be sped up.
This is known as the 'chipmunk effect'.

Here is the official current word from EA reguarding the MP version

PROBLEM:
Battlefield 1942 (PC) GENERAL - Troubles with multiplayer demo

SOLUTION:
Due to the minimum requirements of this demo being quite high, there are a couple things that must be checked to ensure these requirements are met. If the requirements are not met, we cannot guarentee the demo will function on your computer system. If all requirements are met fully, and you still experience issues when trying to operate the demo, we are unable to offer additional technical support, as the is not a finished product or official release.

THIS IS NOT FINAL SOFTWARE. YOU MAY ENCOUNTER ISSUES WHICH WILL BE FIXED IN THE FINAL PRODUCT.

YOU MAY EXPERIENCE RANDOM CRASHES AND LOCK-UPS. WE ARE FULLY AWARE OF THIS AND IT WILL BE ADDRESSED IN THE FINAL PRODUCT.

Checking Minimum Requirements:
The minimum requirements and supported hardware for this demo are listed in the readme.txt file that is installed with the demo. Please read this document and compare the requirements to the hardware on your system.

In addition, check the list of supported, and non-supported hardware for this demo in the readme. If you are using a non-support hardware device we cannot guarentee the demo will function on your computer system.

Preparing Your Computer:
If your computer meets all the requirements and your devices are supported, it is a good idea to prepare your system before launching or installing the demo. Install the latest drivers for your devices, especially your video and sound cards. These are generally available at the website of the device manufacturer. Here are some common manufactuer websites:

www.nvidia.com
www.ati.com

www.creative.com
www.turtlebeach.com

Once drivers have been updated, you will want to close background applications. You may not know it, but chances are that you have many programs running on your computer eating up it's resources. Closing down these unneeded programs will help boost performance in your game. This is something you can do before starting the game every time you wish to play.

If you are using Windows 98 or Windows ME, close background programs by doing this:

1) Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once. This will in turn bring up a window called "close programs". The only two applications that you want listed here before running the game are EXPLORER and SYSTRAY.
2) Close all other programs by double-clicking on them.
3) Repeat this process after closing each application until only EXPLORER and SYSTRAY are listed.
**Note that some applications may take multiple times before closing. Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.

If you are using Windows XP, close background programs by doing this:

Hold the Ctrl and Alt keys down at the same time and hit the Del key once.
This will bring up the "Task Manager", follow the steps bellow in order:

1) Click the "Processes" tab.
2) Click on the User Name button to sort by user name
3) Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names. Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
5) Click on END PROCESS
6) Repeat steps 4 and 5 until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user name.

If you are using Windows 2000, close background programs by doing this:

1) Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, tap the Delete key.
2) Select Task Manager
3) Click the Applications tab.
4) Click on the name of the program in the list and click on End Task
5) Repeat this process until all the background task are closed

In addition to closing background tasks, there are files located on your hard disk that programs are no longer using and are now wasting space. To clean up these files you can use a tool provided in Windows called Disk Cleanup.

To run this program in Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, or Windows 2000:

1) Click on the Start button, then click on Programs, then Accessories, System Tools, and select Disk Cleanup.
2) Select which Hard Disk to cleanup. Generally the disk drive letter you want to clean is C:
3) Hit the OK button.

Improving Game Performance:
The demo will allow you to improve performance and frame rates by sacrificing looks. You can do this by lowering video settings. Video settings are found in the options menu of the game. The most important setting to lower to improve performance is resolution.

Change these settings by preference. If you wish have better graphics, be aware that you may experience choppy gameplay.

TCP/UDP game ports:
The main port used by this demo is: 14567
Ports will vary depending on server, but are displayed when trying to connect.
Please consult your router or firewall manual for instructions on how to open this port for multiplayer gameplay.

As stated previously, if you continue to experience issues with the demo, we are unable to offer additional technical support, as the is not a finished product or official release.

THIS IS NOT FINAL SOFTWARE. YOU MAY ENCOUNTER ISSUES WHICH WILL BE FIXED IN THE FINAL PRODUCT.

YOU MAY EXPERIENCE RANDOM CRASHES AND LOCK-UPS. WE ARE FULLY AWARE OF THIS AND IT WILL BE ADDRESSED IN THE FINAL PRODUCT.

bah...i have already done all that and i still cannot run the dang thing...but i have found out that it isnt my monitor(tried another one), and the nvidia refresh fix doesnt work, cant read the display properties of the card, so i have narrowed it down to my card, which is strange...it is a geforce2400mx 64meg card...the only thing i could think of is that it may be something with the aopen cards(which mine is)...dont know though...i guess i will have to go buy one...

Well if we could get more people in at once we could try to get it goin and tweak the server better. according to EA should run 16 just fine dunno though until we get people in.
