Gamecube was always $50 less then the other 2 so to stay competitive they had to drop to $150. No other reason that I know of. Dirge, help me out on this....PS2 and XBOX were $299, was GC $199 or $249? Me forgets. Anyway, they dropped to $150 so they remained cheaper than PS2 and XBOX.

I found the price drops interesting in the USA, as all the systems were selling well. M$ had no choice but to drop the price in other parts of the world, as they were getting their arse handed to them. Therefore they cut the price by as much as 50% in some countries. It has helped, but they are still way behind.

History has shown that system sales really take off when the price reaches $99. I think Nintendo will gain some ground on PS2 with the realease of their big franchises (Mario, Starfox, Metroid, and Zelda) in the next few months. I think they will gain even more ground if they are first to $99. I still don't think anyone will catch PS2 - but at $99, more people might be inclined to pick up a second console. Because let's face it, at the end of the day, there is only one place you can play the best exclusive first party lineup around, and that's Nintendo.
