hell yes..2200 xp sucks. 2.5 ghz kick butt you can get it to run at 3.2 ghz.

I know the 2.2 is a 1.8 (I have that chip). But, performance wise...it will out-perform anything (IMHO).

First of all, Timbo is mistaken that a 2.5 P4 will do 3.2ghz consistently. Second of all, I have yet to see ANY benchmark that shows an XP2200 beating a 2.53 P4 unless its overclocked. Thirdly, you can't get any decent overclocks with an XP2200 because AMD have hit the limit of the chip for all practical purposes. Intel will release a 3ghz chip before Christmas, and AMD's Opteron processor won't be released until next year. If you overclock a P4 2.5 you will get at least 2.8 out of it which will SMOKE anything other than a GOOD watercooled XP2200. And the biggest limitation of ANY AMD system is the memory bus. Only when DDR II is released will you begin to see that gap close some.

I have been and will continue to be an AMD fan when you factor in the cost vs. performance, but the fact remains that if you want the FASTEST you have no other choice than Intel.

By the way, I think Timbo wants $150.00 for his XP 2200

Ok, I wondered. Well, the neat thing about all GF4Ti4600's is that they ALL use the same ram and core chips, so the brand of card really doesnt matter as far as overclocking is concerned, with the exception of how well they are cooled. It's pretty much luck of the draw...

Vicious, I am well aware of Gainward's marketing ploys, as the last few Video Cards I've bought both for myself and my clients have been Gainward "Golden Samples". Gainward's Golden Sample cards usually have a better cooling package which helps in oc'ing. Yes, they have "hand-picked" core chips, and their factory drivers guarantee a fairly substantial overclock, but I promise you that its not 360/750, even though its name (GeForce4 Power Pack Ultra/750 XP "Golden Sample") has 750 in it. On the other hand, if you improve its factory cooling then you can push em to the moon! :)

But, ALL of the Ti4600's in the first few waves have 128MB of 2.8ns Samsung DDR, and of course the core by Nvidia. My point is that every card, by Gainward or not, has the potential to be highly overclockable. Gainward just gives you an edge.

I think you are missing my point, Vicious. I am the first one to say how good Gainward's cards are. Hell, I've bought and sold over 2 dozen of them in the past year. They are the best, CONSISTENTLY hands down in my experience. That's not the point.

The point is that all GF4 Ti4600's have the same core and the same memory chips. There is such a difference in the yield of the chips (both memory and core) that ANY Ti4600 has the POSSIBILITY of performing as well as any other. It's the luck of the draw UNLESS you buy a Gainward. They guarantee theirs to be overclockable to a certain degree, and anything beyond that is just gravy.

The primary reason that you see differing prices on the Ti4600 cards is that they are available with many different configurations (Video in/Video out, 3d glasses, bundled Firewire card, Dual DVI inputs, DVI/SVGA, and SVGA/S-Video). Also keep in mind that not all brands names carry the same weight with the consumer, as ASUS and Gainward cards are usually priced higher than MSI or Visiontek.

As for the reviews on the net, you need to keep in mind who does the reviewing and the methods they use to get their results. I had my GF4 delivered by fedex from gainward on the date of release because of my confidence in their manufacturing. I don't need no stinking review! :) Seriously though, there are many review sites that exist solely to get free hardware, and their opinions are geared accordingly. All in all, Gainward cards are simply the best when it comes to guaranteed performance.

Hey Timbo, what are you going to do about the difference in size of the fittings on the GF4 waterblock? I thought you said it was a block for the memory chips? That one is for the core, unless you're gonna buy 8 of them! LOL :)

So what I want to know is why you keep posting all of these 3dmark scores, but you won't post your OWN scores? ;)

As to that Alpha Radeon 9700, they wont even be for sale until the end of September, maybe early October. Nvidia is gonna smack it down with the NV30 before Christmas more than likely.

Hey Vicious, sorry didnt see the AIM message until this evening...I'll catch up with ya soon on AIM.

Hey Vicious, here's something for you to praise... http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=3890348

While AMD's are more efficient at Instrustions per Clock Cycle, when you look at the speed necessary of an Athlon XP to keep up with my CPU speed, it would have to be at least a 2ghz chip, probably 2.2. AMD's fastest chip available is 200 Mhz slower than that! But with the right AMD chip and some BAD ASS watercooling and a TEC, you can have that. I'm anxious to get this new Intel setup installed in my HIGHLY modded Koolance case and put some water on this thing to see what its really made of. I'm gonna have some pics of it soon.
