We did this a while back and I thought it was pretty interesting - so lets see where you get your "Geek" on!

Post Details too!

Mine:
Desktop
Gateway POS
AMD64x2 3800+ (2.0GHz)
4GB DDR2
Nvidia 7900GS
~800GB HDD Space

Laptop:
Thinkpad R40
Pentium-M (Centrino) 1.5Ghz
2GB DDR
160HDD
ATI Mobility 9000

The desktop and laptop are linked together with Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) which allows me to use the same Keyboard/Mouse combo with both machines and move my mouse between the 2 screens...kinda like a dual monitor setup, I just can't move apps from screen to screen (obviously) and with the advantage of each "screen" having it's own processing power...

Both machines are running MandrivaThe Desktop is on the x86_64 and the laptop is on the i686 variant. I'm currently experimenting with VirtualBox as a virtualization solution on the Desktop as it is integrated into the Mandriva Repos, and I would like to use a package that is part of a distro rather than one outside that I have to maintain myself.

I don't really do much gaming anymore, but I do have UT2004 installed on the Desktop, and CS and CS:Source installed in Wine - actually BF2 is installed, but I'm waiting on "punkbuster" support so I can play.

So enough about me, and my stuff, and what I do with it, let's see what you've got going on in your Geekdomain!

My setup is more of a entertainment system than anything else. Since I've got four fairly young kids, we try to preprocess most of the video (removing commercials, ripping DVDs so they don't get scratched, recording acceptable shows, etc). Our house is wired with with Cat5, so we move the video around between the machines and game consoles.

Living Room:
Home Brew Media Center
P4 2.6 Ghz, 1GB Ram, 300 + 200 ATA drives, DVD, Analog Tuner
Windows XP Media Center Edition

Wii and Xbox Game Consoles

46" 1080P LCD for display

Office:
Home Brew Server
P4 3.2 Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 500 + 150 ATA drives
Windows Home Server
* This machine does a nightly backup of all machines in the house and provides file sharing (along with duplication of our photos, videos, etc). It also allows for remote access to files and remote desktop of machines.

Home Brew Gaming Machine (my machine)
E6600, 4Gb Ram, 500 SATA, 160 ATA, DVD, 7950GT
Windows Vista Ultimate

Wife's Dell Inspiron Desktop
P4 3.2 Ghz, 2Gb Ram, 160 SATA, DVD, Low end ATI card
Windows Vista Premium

Kid's Dell Computer 1
P4 3 Ghz, 1 Gb Ram, 160 SATA, 7600 GT
Windows XP Home

Kid's Home Brew Computer 2
AMD 3200+, 1Gb Ram, 120 ATA, ATI X800 AGP card
Windows XP Home

* All of our music, video and photos can be accessed from any of these machines. The shows that are recorded on the media center can be viewed by the kids.

Bedroom:
XBox 360 Console used as a media extender to connect to the Windows XP Media Center Edition in the Living Room
* We watch DVDs and the recorded shows from the media center

I used to do a lot more in the area of customization, but I haven't been programming a lot recently. My other Win2k server used to provide Caller ID information on all of the computers and MCE box, but I ditched it for the WHS. The nice thing about our system is that everything is accessible from all locations. Our home movies and photos are all digitized and online.

P.S.: My wife thinks that I'm a nut (probably right), but I don't like the kids using my wife's computer nor mine. They have a way of messing things up. I'm pretty much a fanatic about keeping everything digital. HD tuner arrives tonight, so I'll be setting up some HD goodness this weekend.

I wasn't trying to kill the thread! It's just that I'm an uber-geek and have always envisioned this type of digital setup. My night job is network admin and support guy at home.

I have a piece of 3/4" plywood with parts from a toast, a BETA VCR, and my original Packard Bell 386. I'm using a 13" black and white monitor. I'm using the keyboard and mouse that came with my 386. I'm running Windows 3.1 and I'm afraid to turn it off because of Y2K. I have 6 car batteries wired in tandem for my back up. So far I've been saved from power outages and surges.

I'll post pictures as soon I get some film for the ol' Polaroid.

Now that's what I'm talking 'bout Henry! Awesome setup.

I hope to do something like that when I move - If I hooked that much equipment up in my old house, it would prolly burn down :D

That ML350 server's just about like the one I had a while back (and returned to the owner)...I couldn't handle the noise in my current place, not to mention the fact the light on my desk actually dimmed when I powered her on :)

Once I move, I plan to build myself a new box (I wanna quad core in a bad way), and that'll allow me to move my Gateway box fully into a "server" role, probably with ESX as well - or I may just do ubuntu server w/ a custom kernel...Ubu Server defaults to 100Hz on the server kernel and that is WAY too low for VMware).

I like the rack too - man it's been just too long since I've seen your "Man Cave"...I'll be that AC unit gets a workout up there in the summertime!

Updated mine with a change for the New Year...here is a BlogPost explaining the change.

http://jaysonrowe.wordpress.com/

BTW, I switched from Livejournal to WordPress as I grew to hate even going to the Livejournal site to manage my blog - If I wanted to buy a premium version, I would have from the beginning, so stop asking! Also I found the blogging tools very lacking, and a lot of the third party editors I tried did not fully support Livejournal, but do support WordPress.
