I know this is a simple question, but simply put, I have Nero Showtime, and WMP. Neither will play divx files.. I hate installing some "Free player" just to find its not free... or one that screws with my system...

so what do you guys use?

I came across this link the other day: http://www.divx.com/dff/index.php

It has a free Divx Pro serial as well which allows you to convert movies to Divx as well as play Divx movies.

Don't know how long the link will work though. Make sure you follow the directions on the page and also unselect all those pesky options to add the yahoo toolbar.

Have you tried it... Do you think its a safe download?

Yea, I downloaded it and tried it out. Worked fine for me. Since it is directly from DivX, I figured it would be on the up and up. It included the stand alone player along with the web player. I didn't install either since I just wanted the codec and the converter (WMP will work with the codec installed). XVid is a third party DivX compatible codec.

I usually try these things out on a Virtual Machine just in case they are loaded with spyware and such.
