I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 930B monitor. Its a great monitor. But I'm wanting to go to a widescreen say 22,24,27, or even 30 inch. What brands does everyone like and what specs should I be most crutial about. All input appreciated. Thanks.

Im not much help andy but I just read a consumer reports review on Dell monitors and I was very surprised buy the low scores on just about every catagory they judged. So im looking around as well.

Onji, what is the native resolution on yours??

I have a 19" Iiyama CRT, AWESOME picture but a little small. I can't seem to find a LCD to match the picture. I bought a Samsung like Andy's at Christmas and sent it back, the color quality is NO WHERE NEAR my CRT.

Any thoughts???

For monitors you should see them in person and hopefully all right next to each other so you can compare. There's lots of stats out there but different companies use the stats differently too. Dell is one of the best. I have a 20" widescreen and it's awsome, way better than my 17" Sony.

I've got a question for the guys with Widescreens.

How does BF2 handle the widescreen format? Does everything get stretched or can you run BF2 at the monitor's native setting?

I've got the video card to handle it, just haven't jumped to a widescreen LCD yet....still running a standard 19" LCD.

BF2 doesn't support widescreen but I can't say I've noticed anything that looks streched. Rollout or someone was telling me that you can modify the properties on your shortcut to force BF2 to run at whatever you want but I never tried it.

The 20.1 inch from BenQ is awesome. I have it and it is amazing for the price. To get BF2 to run in widescreen, you need to do the following. Create a shortcut on your desktop. Rt Click, and got to properties. Copy this to the target field:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

It modifies the resolution to 1680x1050, which is the defualt rez for the 20.1 inch BenQ. Hope this helps.

Thanks Kramer, I got the 24" with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 (8800 GTX), do I simply replace your 2 values above with mine?

Thanks! Oh and quit killin' me, I'm an old slow man!!!

mkramer1121
July 17th, 2007, 09:32 PM
Yup, just modify it. You'll notice the Map and HUD stretched a bit, but the players will be correct size. And I pick on old slow men in BF2, they're easy to hit, their walkers and wheelchairs reflect the sun...just ask goose! :D

Kramer, widescreengamers listed this as the command line, it use the standard "fullscreen 1" rather than your "widescreen 1". Do you think it matters or should I just STFU and try them both?? :)

"C:\Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll probably have to wait until the holidays....but at least I've got time to shop around to figure out what I want ;)

In the meantime I might play around with my wife's Dell 19" widescreen to see if there is a difference. I played around with it on DDO and things looked horrible so I took my monitor back (but that was months and months ago).

Thnx

OK, the first challenge of the new monitor, when I change the command line for 1920x1200, the game goes to the BF2 start screen then stops starting and crashes to desktop. It runs fine at the 1600x1200 from within the game, but the monitor resizes it to fit the entire screen, so with the size it needs to be 1920x1200, it isn't crisp at 1600x1200. Need some help Kramer and anyone with a 24" monitor.

FALSE ALARM!!! Kramer, I copied and pasted your command line, updated the values and viola!!! IT WORKS!!!

The first go around I simply added to the existing command line. It has no space between menu and 1 or fullscreen and 1, don't know what the deal was but this is AWESOME!!!

Thanks Shadow, Onji and Dirge for recommending 24" goodness!!!

Andy, you gotta come over and see this beauty :)

I've been tooling around for about a week now. I do like teh 24" monitors that Robby, Darren, DJ and a few others have. I also like the 24 that Rollout got. But while I've got the green light I wanted to get what I can. So a 30" is just calling my name. I love my Samsung I have now and this is the one I've got my eye on. Any thoughts guys.

Samsung 305T 30" Widescreen 6 ms 1000:1, WQXGA 2560X1600 Dual DVI-D, USB.

But the 24" is so much more affordable like the

Samsung 245BW 24" 5ms 1000:1 DC3000:1 WUXGA 1920X1200 DVI

Andy,
The BenQ has WAY better viewing angles than the Samsung. Look at all the reviews on newegg. Some people bought both Samsung and BenQ and there is no comparison. This thing is awesome compared to the Samsung I brought to work for you and I to look at because I couldn't stand the lack of view angle (remember???)!!! I know our DLP's rule, but their monitors don't!!!

You need to come over before spending any money bro!!! I LOVE the W, so trhe WZ could only be better!!!!

Oh yeah, the game only plays 1600 x 1200(the MAX in game resolution), so a 30" WON'T buy you a better picture, it will just stretch it more than a 24". Believe me 1600 x1200 RULES compared to 1280 x1024!!!!

When ya don't play ya get all old and rusty. Diesel is like da tin man left out in da rain. SQUEAK.....SQUEAK.....SQUEAK.

You on the other hand......a physically fit fightin machine. Hell...I've seen Andy shiot a claymore in full sprint. Now that takes talent. Diesel can't do that cause it gets hung up on the colostomy bag.

LMFAO, Mike, do you have a retort. Defend yourself man. LMFAO, Good one Abi. And FYI you too can learn the shiot claynmore in full sprint move yourself too. All it takes is a box of laxitives and a deep seeded desire to get the hell out of the way of enemy fire.
