What should I get as far as memory? I currently have 2x256 sticks and I want to get up to 1gig.
My question is should I get two 512 sticks or get one 1gig? I have heard it is better to break it up like that. help?

If you use DDR memory get 2x512 sticks so your system will perform at it's best.

get 2 if you have room for 2 more 512's in the future, if you only have 2 slots then you need 2 gig sticks, or get one now and one later.

I think when he said 1 gig he meant 1 gig total, atleast that's how I read it. Basically whatever your total amount of RAM is going to be split it into 2 sticks for the best results.

Yeah I want one gig total. I need 1 gig to limp my system along untill December when the prices drop on new systems.

ok I have hit a wall...My system currently has one non-parity DDR PC2300 and one PC2100, both at 256.
Would this be a wise selection to replace those:
