I'm looking to get a monitor for someone for Christmas, but not sure which brand to get. I'd like to get a 19 inch LCD, somewhere in the 250-400 range. Any input on brands?

hummm I have been looking at this for a few weeks now, let me see if I can help
I am getting the Dell 2005FPW(20in wide screen) right now with a $45 coupon and the sale, it is about $390 with free shipping...cannot touch that for the price.
-seen in person as my brother in law has one and it is really smooth.

other good choices.
HYUNDAI L90D+ Silver 19" 8ms LCD Monitor - $318 ish
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824179014
-rated really good by tomshardware for the 8ms category

ViewSonic VX924 Black/Silver 19" 3ms gray-to-gray (avg.); 6ms white-black-white (typ)' LCD Monitor - Retail $355 ish
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824116355
-most popular gaming lcd atm, and gets rave reviews from newegg reviewers.

Acer AL1914smd-8 Silver/Black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor Built in Speakers - Retail $285 ish
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009044
-very affordable and also gets good reviews.

Keep in mind that all these brands make cheaper versions and more expensive versions of each type, just look at the respose rate, contrast and the brightness and you will see that as those figures go up or down the price will vary.

I looked specifically for gaming, and that is the examples I gave you, but there are so many out there that will do if you are not getting this for a "gamer", in the >16ms range, that will do just fine and can easily be as low as $180 with some of the sales they are boasting. I would recommend narrowing down your selection to 2 or 3 companies and going with that and then selecting the best for the application. And the final note, is there are some really anal..smacktards out there who will never be pleased, so do not spend too much time with reviews from individuals, as every monitor will have so negative reviews.

The best ones have to be the square or rectangle ones. I really hate those round ones.

It doesn't have to be a great gaming monitor, its for my mom, and she uses it for work, which is typing up depositions.

DO NOT BUY one from Best Buy and such....way too expensive,
nothing against my favorite store, as I spend thousands of dollars there every year.
but for LCD's their selection is horrible and their prices are too expensive.

Newegg or Dell is the way to go on that,
for your mom, then just look at the reviews and the prices

329, Holy cow how did I get mine at New egg for 259. They said it was a blow out special but I just looked at my 19" Samsung Syncmaster 930B and its listed at 359. Now it does say its a 930BF and mine is just a 930B, not sure what the difference is but I guess when they went from 930B to 930BF I got mine on clearance at newegg. I FREAKIN LOVE NEWEGG, WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
