This is kind of a hard decision for me...I really got "attached to the Sox during the AL Pennent race, but Reggie Sanders, of the Cardinals is from Florence, SC. (see: http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=121673)

He is a 1986 graduate of Wilson High School in Florence

sigh - don't know who to pick at this point...lol.

Here's another story about Reggie that made local news recently -

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2004-06-16-foul-ball_x.htm

From that article:

Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders came out between innings to give Nick a bat and ball. "In my heart, I thought I should do something," said Sanders. "It's all about the kids."

And let us NOT forget that's what it's really about!

The Dallas Morning News has identified the biggest jerk in the Ballpark at Arlington as Matt Starr. He held onto the ball despite fans surrounding the seating area hollering at him to give the boy the ball. Forget throwing the book at this guy. They ought to sentence him to take a knockdown pitch from every 95 mph-plus pitcher in the majors.

one more...

Reggie Sanders would ultimately come to the boy’s aid, hooking him up with a game-used bat and ball. Cards reliever Steve Kline even sent something to the older fan, a Cardinal’s shirt that he signed “tough guy and ball stealer.” The shirt never reached its target, as the man ran home to put the ball up on E-bay and revel in his accomplishment.

“I won't talk about the guy,” Sanders said. “He's not worth talking about.”

HA HA HA!

Adults should go to the games to enjoy the athletic competition and maybe the company of some friends (friends are strictly an online luxury for the large, fat, pathetic Fan). The green fuzzy mascots and things like that are meant for the kids. It’s a little known fact that no one will care if you wrestle away a $1 cheap t-shirt away from a first grader. And despite scientific reports, bowling over several pre-schoolers en route to snagging a foul ball is not an example of your athletic prowess. While it’s probably a last resort for most of these guys, stealing balls from kids will not help them pick up women.

Games should be fun for everyone. The adults who are old enough to understand the games can appreciate the athletic competition, the kids, on the other hand, appreciate anything that has a gigantic head (excluding Barry Bonds) and gives out free things. Baseball cards should be put into bicycle spokes and traded amongst friends, not opened and then immediately preserved forever in some vacuum-sealed glass case. Souvenir cups should be used as cups, not trophies. Foul balls are for show and tell and to play with, not to take home and throw on E-bay (a foul ball currently pulls in between $3-$4, while a baseball can cost anywhere from $4-$6 at a sporting goods store).

That ball can be worth a solid $5-$7 for those serious fans, but chances are, it’s worth a hell of a lot more to the kid.

From the http://www.sportznutz.com/columns/sports_gospel/061504.htm reference...i just thought what he said was TOO funny!

You know if it wasn't for Snakebite throwing you a bone you would have been the only person in a ten post thread Jayson.

I'll be rooting for the Cardinals, actually they about the only baseball games I watch. My brother went to high school with this guy http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/team/player.jsp?player_id=118065. So whichever team he is on is the team I watch. I'm just glad he got a ring and had a chance to play in the World Series, not everyone gets that chance.

Oh yeah he is starting today in left field, might be funny watching him versus ole Wakefield.

Well, I never lost anything in Boston, so I could care less about them winning a free coke at McDonald's, let alone the World Series. The only good thing I see now is that now all the people around the country who were fans because they felt sorry for them not winning or being cursed don't have an excuse anymore. At least root for a team that can spell!

I don't think I've ever watched a complete football game in my life...

Probably stems from not being able to get into a sport you know nothing about, don't know the rules for or anything...

Pretty much, the only sports I watch are Baseball, Basketball and NASCAR.

I really only keep up with college football and basketball to tell ya the truth. I will watch super bowl, world series, etc. of course. :)
